Beyerdynamic MC930s Studio Condenser Mic
Whereas all the microphuss revolves around ‘sexy’ large diaphragm mics these days, there is no substitute for small diaphragm condensers for a large variety of applications.
Perceived wisdom is that the smaller the diaphragm, the more accurate (less coloured or ‘neutral’) the sound, which is why so many classical recordists swear by Schoeps and DPA pencil mics. There are, however, a number of excellent European made pencil mics that deliver quality results on strings, acoustic guitars and overheads/ambience that are eminently affordable. My love of Milabs is well known, and I’m fortunate enough to have a couple of classic Calrec pencil mics (sadly no longer available) along with my AKG C451’s. I’ve been very impressed with the smaller Pearl mics from Sweden and have been gratified by the plaudits being lavished on the Beyer MC930.
Suitable for Studio, Home recording, Live applications, Vocals, Choirs, Overhead, Instruments
This high-quality, universal condenser microphone features an exceptional price/performance ratio.Features of the MC 930 are the wide frequency response of 40 – 20,000 Hz and a signal-to-noise ratio of 71 dB.
The Beyer MC930 is suitable for miking choirs, orchestras and solo instruments.
Due to the switchable pre-attenuation of 15 dB MC930 provides excellent performance at high sound pressure levels. The switchable bass roll-off filter with 6 dB/Octave at 250 Hz compensates for proximity effects. With the WS 101 wind screen the MC 930 can be used for vocal applications and speech. The MC930 is phantom powered (11 – 52 V) and is suitable for live
applications and installations.
Due to its cardioid polar pattern, the MC930 has a high-gain-before feedback and eliminates noise from the rear. It is not only a first-class tool for studios, but also for sound contracting systems, where excellent sound and maximum gain-before-feedback is required.
