Moog IIIp ModularSystem Synthesizer Reissue (Used)

During the 1960s, the initial Moog Synthesizers emerged from collaborative design discussions with over 100 composers and pioneers of electronic music accustomed to the “classical studio” setup. This “classic studio” approach was cumbersome and far from user-friendly, relying on surplus telecommunication devices, radio gear, and primitive tape machines to produce sounds. Moog sought to merge these elements into a more intuitive single modular unit accessible to the average musician.

In 1967, Bob Moog and his small team of technicians began to take orders and individually hand-build the Synthesizer I in a storefront in Trumansburg, NY. The introduction of the Synthesizer IIIc (“c” representing the now-standard cabinet design) allowed musicians, producers, and engineers to buy pre-configured modules with familiar sounds and more, a move away from the cluttered “Classic Studio” method.

The IIIc, however, was not very portable, which motivated Moog to develop the legendary IIIp, a fully portable variant of the IIIc equipped with three separate cabinets. This innovation not only reshaped music production but also influenced how music has been crafted for over half a century. Now, for a brief period, an authentic recreation of the IIIp is available for contemporary music producers.

The original Moog Synthesizer, launched in the late 1960s, revolutionized music production and sound design. The latest Moog Synthesizer IIIp offers enthusiasts a chance to possess a piece of synth history, meticulously handcrafted using original documentation, artwork, and circuit board files.

Comprising thirty-seven hand-wired and hand-soldered discrete modules, the IIIp is assembled into three robust wood cabinets wrapped in tolex by the skilled staff at the Moog Factory in Asheville, NC. Classic modules such as the 984 Matrix Mixer, 905 Spring Reverb, and ten 901 series audio oscillators are included in this sophisticated instrument.

      Characteristics:

      • This entire Moog system has been reproduced with precision, utilizing original documentation, circuit board blueprints, and artwork files, all crafted through traditional manufacturing processes.
      • Featuring 37 hand-assembled and hand-soldered modules, each custom-mounted and intricately hand-wired inside three solid wood cabinets wrapped in tolex.
      • Includes 10 discrete 901 series oscillators, known for their unique organic sound quality, which is not present in the Model 15, System 35, or System 55.
      • The 905 Spring Reverb module adds an enchanting, piano-like trail to any sound, a feature not available in the Model 15, System 35, or System 55.
      • Equipped with four CP3 mixers, which have tonal qualities similar to the mixer in the Model 15, though this component is absent in the Model 15, System 35, and System 55.
      • Incorporates the 984 4-channel Matrix Mixer designed for parallel processing, complete with individual Bass and Treble controls; this mixer is not found in the Model 15, System 35, or System 55.
      • The design is entirely discrete, with no operational amplifiers used, which is a distinguishing factor compared to the Model 15, System 35, and System 55.

Only 40 handcrafted and sold worldwide.
