UDO Audio Super 6 Analogue Hybrid Polysynth Blue
The U.D.O Super 6 synthesizer is a powerful and versatile instrument that combines cutting-edge FPGA digital hardware oscillators with traditional voltage controlled analog technology. With 12 voices of polyphony and a unique super-wavetable core, it produces rich and evolving textures that can be shaped and manipulated using the binaural analog signal path and flexible modulation. The synthesizer is compact, robust, and features smooth and responsive controls that make it easy and inviting to play. Its gorgeous analog tone and immediate playability make it an instant classic, applicable to producers and musicians of any and every genre.
“The Super 6 is a result of years of hard work and many iterations of development. My mission with the Super 6 has been to harmonise what I love about archetypal electronic instrument design with modern, novel synthesis technologies that excel at generating spatially dynamic results. The architecture leverages the vibrancy of a true-stereo analog signal path, driving it with extremely high sample rate, spectrally versatile, digital audio and presents you with straightforward, expressive controls of superior mechanical build quality.” – George Hearn Super 6 Designer
The Super 6 synthesizer was created out of a deep passion for synthesizers. U.D.O aimed to craft an instrument that would feel familiar upon first glance but would also offer exciting and fresh possibilities upon deeper exploration. The layout and aesthetic of the Super 6 pay homage to classic synthesizers that have inspired generations of musicians and composers for decades, while the instrument’s features and capabilities bring these ideas into the modern era.
When in Binaural mode, the Super 6 utilizes a genuine stereo signal path where the twelve voices of the instrument are paired to generate six stereo ‘super’ voices. This means that each of the player’s ears and the left and right channels are assigned a complete synthesizer voice. The parameters of both channels for each super voice can be controlled independently, allowing the player to craft rich and distinctive stereo images. This effect can range from subtle to extreme stereo movement, resulting in an intensified sense of spatial positioning compared to “conventional” monaural signal-chains that are panned at their output.
The Super 6 offers immense flexibility to the player with its straightforward controls and thoughtfully designed front-panel. For those who wish to explore further, the modulation system is intuitive and immediate, centered around the performance area switches. Additionally, every control on the panel can be targeted for modulation, all at once and with distinct amounts, providing even more opportunities for customization.
The primary filter of the Super 6 is an analog 4-pole, 24 dB per octave, resonant low-pass filter based on the classic polysynth filter design from Sound Semiconductor (SSI). This filter is positioned in the signal chain after a voltage controlled high-pass filter that can be turned off, fixed, or made to track the low-pass filter cutoff frequency for band-pass operation. Additionally, the Super 6 features an analog amplifier section that can be utilized to shape the sound by modulating and adjusting the amplitude or loudness over time.
